![]() We land at 12:45pm and there are green line departures from the airport station at 12:57pm (highly unlikely to catch that unless we land super early), 1:12pm, 1:27pm, 1:42pm. The Pioneer Rd /Draper Town Center one is also really close in the other direction - but no need for us to stay on the train for three more minutes (to use that station) if they can avoid crossing 12300 South and retrieve us at the station with which they are familiar ! Driving is a factor (unfamiliar ground, and sort of fearful) for them. ![]() The Kimballs Lane station is closest to the apartments and they already know where this one is / how to get to it. We think the train will be fun, plus save the rental car hassle and price - and it takes just an hour and three minutes so it's not all that much longer anyway compared to the car rental process and then driving down.Īlso turns out that the station/endpoint we should use is Kimballs Lane, one stop north of Draper Town Center - I didn't realize there was a station there until this morning when I was looking at the timetable. Turns out it isn't a safety issue concern with the relatives as much as "oh, you have to make so many stops and change trains and you have to go into Salt Lake City and it takes so long".but seriously it would take a certain amount of time to acquire a car and drive too. We think the Trax train is going to be perfect for us. THANK YOU so much for all of the replies. They really need to try riding TRAX sometime. Wow! They should be delighted that you are willing to take TRAX and thus make picking you up so easy for them. You don't.Īnd a final comment - I am amazed that your relatives would prefer to drive 1/2 hour, one way to the airport, wait in the Pick-Up parking lot for your plane to touch down and for you to get to the curb and then drive back to Draper or offer to pay for a rental car. Don't be confused that you, as a casual one time rider, might have to tap on/tap off. It's used by folks who use the UTA system on a regular basis.mostly for commuting. But don't be freaked out if you ride the entire trip and no one asks.Ībout the tap on/tap off mentioned by kbec, that is only available if purchased in advance through one's employment or directly from UTA. ![]() Just keep your ticket in your pocket or some place handy should an official UTA ask about it. In fact, it is more the norm that tickets aren't checked. ![]() We would really appreciate any experiences you can share.Ībout getting checked on TRAX to see if you have your ticket, that doesn't always happen. We will be arriving on a Friday afternoon at 12:45pm.Ĭan anyone comment on this, both about the connection and logistics as well as a rough idea of the time it would take? I am planning to call UTA as well about the routing and where/how to transfer, but we are really interested in finding out whatever we can about riding the train before actually doing it. It looks like the closest light rail station to her location is Draper Town Center on Pioneer Rd. I tried it also breaking the trip up into two segments but no luck. I've looked at the UTA website trying to piece together a route and it looks like green line from airport to Salt Lake City central station and then blue line down to Draper, but when I use the trip planner it says no routes are available. We won't need a car once we are there so it doesn't make too much sense to rent a car just to get to her location from the airport, then turn around and return it the next day. Thinking of riding Trax from SLC airport to a station in Draper where a relative can pick us up - far easier for us to ride to her location (even with switching trains) instead of her driving up to airport. ![]()
